Project Size: 7,000 square feet

The client sought the replacement of an existing mountain lodge located in Yoho National Park, one of the largest protected mountainous regions in the world. The site is nestled in the wood adjacent to the Kicking Horse River with a spectacular forested backdrop. Lamoureux Architect was asked to design a lodge and twenty-six cabins to serve as luxury accommodation. The new lodge facility is comprised of guest dining, great room, and lodge services (kitchen, bar, office, reception and storage). In keeping with a historic timber-frame tradition, the lodge is built with reclaimed douglas fir posts and beams. All flooring is made of reclaimed wood that lends the space a weathered patina appropriate for its context. Forming the symbolic centre of the lodge is the stone hearth, surrounded by glazing that frames a view of the woods beyond.
