Project Size: 3,500 square feet
Project Completion: 2008
Situated on a seventy-five foot bluff, this cabin embraces the distinctive features of its site. The cabin is oriented to take full advantage of the spectacular mountain view and the tall pines that surround it. Owing to the steep grade, a concrete bridge spans the gap between the street and the entrance. Modern in its spatial organization, the cabin is composed of vernacular forms and materials; muscular fir columns and beams and stained cedar shingles help define the house within a “mountain getaway” vocabulary. A central feature of the cabin is the Jerusalem onyx-clad glazing that runs adjacent to the open-tread steel staircase, filtering light to the interior and generating a lantern lighting effect on the exterior. A large skylight and generous fenestration to the northeast bring large amounts of natural light into the living spaces. |
