Project Size: 4,600 square feet
Project Completion: 2008

In this modern interpretation of the traditional ski chalet, wood products were used not only to respect and acknowledge the alpine/resort vernacular context of the location, but also to bring warmth and comfort to the materiality of both interiors and exteriors while paying homage to the more rusticated and traditional uses of wood in alpine buildings. Through the design and finishing, the uses of wood in this home are refined to create a sense of modern elegance that can be seen in the detailing of the wood and steel exposed structure and the clean lines of the millwork throughout the home. The contiguous use of wood for both interior and exterior finishes is highlighted and enhanced through the transparency of the home’s truss spaces and clerestory treatments which allow the interior spaces to be viewed on the approach to the entrance of the home, lighting up the wood structure and interior finishes from within like a lantern as the daylight fades.
