Site conditions including a busy street frontage as well as expansive views of Burrard Inlet offered at the lot's highest elevation, determined that the upper floor be dedicated to major living spaces. Conceived as a series of programmatic experiences organized within a post and beam structure, the spaces are fluid, yet rooms are articulated and defined by the structural grid. Spaces on the upper floor are connected by a continuously vaulted, cedar-clad ceiling which is exposed the entire length of the house. Broad horizontal eaves at recessed porches deflect the rain, control the sun and protect windows and walls against the wet climate.
