Project Size: 8,800 square feet
Project Completion: 2008
This West Vancouver waterfront home reflects the clients’ love of the Caribbean Island of Mustique. In particular, stylistic references were drawn from the house designs of stage designer Oliver Messel that can be found across the Island. These compositions play on the traditional colonial Caribbean vernacular with a theatrical twist and can be seen in the creation of a roofscape that gives the appearance and feel of a grouping of pavilions that typically define homes on Mustique. Wide elliptical arches, a signature Messel detail, are incorporated throughout the home. Subtle tropical references and details are found in everything from the palette of dark flooring against pale wall color schemes, vaulted ceilings in the bedrooms, exposed rafter details at the soffits and even in the stylized pineapples that appear in the millwork. The main floor opens to a covered outdoor lounge and pool deck, perfect for year round enjoyment of the waterfront location. |
