Project Completion: 2010

Perched on its lot above steeply sloping terrain, this 3 story home is situated to provide un-paralleled views of the Burrard Inlet and Vancouver Island from living spaces both inside and out. The orientation of the home allows for access to auto-court and street from the main living level while a view axis from the entry out to the cantilevered pool deck and infinity edge pool dissolves into ocean horizon beyond.

The spatial strategy for this home was geared to reinforce the concept of transparency through an open plan and floor to ceiling glazing with corner butt glazing to seemingly “dissolve” building corners. On the horizontal plane, the home is built around a stone “spine wall” that differentiates the main entry from the garage and auto court area and carries through the interior entry/foyer. Vertically the home is organized around the stair well which connects all three levels by a floating steel stair structure. An exterior Koi pond notched out of the plan and surrounded by glazing on 3 sides visually connects main floor living space with upper bedrooms and office.

Anchored into the site by skillfully rendered board-formed concrete at its’ base, the residence rises to the Butterfly Roofs that punctuate the upper bedrooms and Master Suite, providing clerestory windows and light into the home’s more private spaces on the upper level.
