Project Size: 5,500 square feet

Set on the slopes of West Vancouver, this home for a creative couple emerged from their desire to dwell within a natural setting. The site offers impressive views into Howe Sound while remaining ensconced within the natural landscape. The craftsman-inspired design of the residence makes formal references to the works of Bernard Maybeck and Julia Morgan but also, in the use of wood and stone, acknowledges a regional west-coast material vocabulary.

The entry sequence is treated as a critical experiential moment for the project. As one approaches the site, the house remains veiled by dense woods, reinforcing its connection to the landscape. From the auto court, an elevated walkway steps lightly over the surrounding greenery while offering a spectacular view towards the water.
