Project Size: 3,500 square feet
Having come into possession of an extremely narrow and steep property with fantastic views and waterfront access, the client asked Lamoureux Architect to design a residence that would take maximum advantage of its inherent possibilities. The resulting design features three distinct volumes that cascade down the slope and terminate at a poolside terrace. The first acts as an entrance pavilion and houses a garage, a cantilevered lookout, and an elevator that descends one level. Emerging from the elevator, one is then presented with an excavated path, hewn from the surrounding stone that then slopes gently towards a three-level, main volume. Here, accordion doors mediate between the interior and exterior on the south side at each level, allowing all aspects of domestic life to exist within an oceanfront context. The adjacent living spaces such as the master bedroom, living and sitting rooms enjoy wonderful views of Howe Sound.
