The client’s residence was an accretion of smaller structures that formed a disjointed Tudor style home. Early in the process of renovation, it was observed that the home’s beautiful siting on a rocky outcrop would no longer be possible under existing zoning regulations and so the existing envelope was preserved. The character of the home was transformed from stuccoed Tudor house to an Arts and Crafts style shingled home. The entry-sequence was reconfigured as a series of landings that skirt patches of gardens and a small waterfall feature that flows beneath the staircase. A number of skylights were strategically introduced to bring light deep into the home and to bring attention to the exposed structural elements that manifest themselves throughout.
