Project Size: 4800 square feet
Project Completion: 2004
IN order to maximize opportunities inherent in the site, the clients who owned the property for a number of years, requested that the primary living spaces be located on the topmost floor to best exploit dramatic views. An expressive butterfly roof over clerestory windows extends views of the North Shore Mountains as they drop into the ocean and up the sloping forested landscape at the rear yard. The entire upper floor makes up a great room comprising living, dining, and kitchen all of which have a direct link to outdoor spaces on both sides of the house; a dining terrace and spa garden in the rear yard and a large cantilevered deck on exposed wood beams at the front. A concrete garage roof serves as a landscaped garden accessible from the main floor bedrooms via a connecting bridge which obscures less than desirable foreground views of structures across a narrow street. The site is carved out creating two courtyards that have access to light and air at a guest suite and foyer at the ground floor.
